Ferry runs aground off Jeju Island in South Korea

A ferry carrying 195 passengers and four crew ran aground just south of South Korea’s famed Jeju Island on Monday, December 24.

The crew of Blueray 1 sent out a distress call to the Korea Coast Guard at around 14:43 local time after their vessel became stuck on some rocks.

A maritime police vessel arrived on the scene and rescued all of Blueray 1’s passengers and crew during an evacuation that lasted around 30 minutes. No injuries have been reported.

The ferry was then towed to shore and has since been under inspection by the coast guard to determine the cause of the grounding.
