Faergen sale rumours continue

Speculation is mounting that the Danish state is considering the sale of its share in Faergen, the ferry company.

Founded in 1866, Faergen has routes between Als and Funen, Bornholm and Sweden, Denmark and Germany, Fano and Esbjerg, Langeland and Lolland-Falster, and Samso (Zealand).

The Danish state assumed responsibility for the ferry service to Bornholm in 1973 before establishing Nordic Ferry Services with Clipper Group in 2007.

It expanded further with the 2011 merger of Bornholmstrafikken, Sydfynske and Nordic Ferry Services, which resulted in the company name changing to Danske Faerger or Rederiet Faergen.
