Bangkok ferries back in service following electric engine refit

The Bangkok Metropolitan Authority has resumed operational sailings of seven of its commuter ferries after these completed undergoing conversion work to accommodate electric-powered engines.

The 14-metre, FRP-hulled vessels each had their existing 152kW diesel engines replaced with a pair of 10kW electric outboards supplied by Germany’s Torqeedo. Power for the outboards is provided by 12 lithium batteries equipped with four fast chargers.

The conversion work was carried out at MariArt Shipyard in Khlong Dan.
