Several people suffered varying degrees of injury after a gangway collapsed on a cruise ship while it was at berth in Panama City, Panama, on Tuesday, November 8.

Passengers were walking across the gangway between the berth and the Norwegian Cruise Line ship Norwegian Encore when the structure collapsed in the early afternoon (local time) of Tuesday.

Local police and ambulance units arrived on-scene shortly afterwards and transported the injured individuals to a nearby treatment facility. Norwegian Cruise Line has also since deployed representatives to Panama City to provide support for the affected guests.

Eyewitnesses said the gangway was noticeably steep prior to the collapse and that underlying support was lacking.

Norwegian Encore, which sustained no damage from the mishap, departed Panama City on Wednesday, November 9.
