The Philippine Department of Transportation (DOTr) and the Philippine Ports Authority (PPA) have completed an expansion project that will enable the Port of Salomague in Ilocos Sur province to accommodate large cruise ships in future.

DOTr and PPA officials expect the newly expanded port situated 420 kilometres north of Manila to accommodate cruise calls by ships that sail out of Hong Kong, Taiwan, and southern China upon the easing of Covid-19 global travel restrictions.

The project encompassed the extension of one of the existing concrete piers and the construction of a new reinforced concrete back-up platform.
