Meyer Turku begins assembly of Costa cruise ship

On July 4, Meyer Turku shipyard began the hull assembly of a new cruise ship for Costa Cruises.

Meyer Turku also worked with sister shipyard Meyer Werft to create the LNG propulsion plant for the ship.

Costa Smeralda will start operation in October 2019. Weighing 180,000 gross tonnes, the ship will have 2,600 cabins.

The ship will be 337 metres long, with a 42-metre beam and 8.8-metre draught. It will have a maximum speed of 17 knots.

A sister ship to Costa Smeralda will be delivered from Turku in 2021.
