Hurtigruten’s smallest ship to be repurposed as training vessel

Norwegian cruise operator Hurtigruten has confirmed that one of its older vessels will be retired before the end of the year and sold to a local maritime training institute.

The 87-metre, 400-passenger Lofoten is also currently the smallest vessel in the Hurtigruten fleet. Since being delivered in 1964, the vessel spent much of its time in service along the Norwegian coast.

Lofoten will be handed over to the Sørlandet Maritime Videregående Skole (Southern Maritime High School) in Kristiansand.
