Caribbean open for business after hurricanes

The Caribbean is again open for cruise business in the aftermath of recent hurricanes.

Only four ports were significantly damaged and they were due to reopen by late November.

The Florida Caribbean Cruise Association (FCCA) has launched a website (caribbeanisopen.com) to allow tourists and operators to check the status of each Caribbean cruise destination.

FCCA President Michele Paige, Carnival Corporation President Arnold Donald, and Royal Caribbean Cruises President Adam Goldstein discussed recovery efforts, the reopening of the damaged Caribbean ports, and the economic significance of the cruise industry on the Caribbean’s economy.

“Every year millions of our customers get the experience the beauty of the Caribbean, and we really don’t expect this year to be any different,” Mr Goldstein said.

“People wonder if it is a good time to go – it is a great time. Most of it was untouched by storms, destinations are open and welcoming visitors. Recovery can be encouraged by visiting, and every destination will be up and running in the next few weeks.”
