All-electric Chinese cruise ship makes maiden voyage on Yangtze River

On the morning of March 29, the all-electric cruise ship Three Gorges 1, jointly developed by the China Three Gorges Group and Hubei Three Gorges Tourism Group, made its maiden voyage at Zigui New Port, Yichang City, Hubei Province.

Designed to promote the electrification on the Yangtze River, and accelerate the Green and low-carbon development of inland shipping, Three Gorges 1, is 100 metres long, 16.3 metres in beam, 4.0 metres deep, and has a passenger capacity of 1,300.

It is equipped with 7,500 kWh-capacity batteries, roughly the equivalent of 100 pure electric cars. The owner claims it can travel for 100 kilometres on a single charge.
