Austal wins two newbuild ferry contracts

Austal has been awarded two new contracts for three commercial passenger ferries with a total value of approximately AU$30 million (US$22 million).

The first contract is for the construction of a 50-metre high speed passenger catamaran for Seaspovill, which operates a number of high speed ferries on domestic routes in South Korea.

The catamaran will carry 450 passengers at speeds of up to 40 knots. The contract is worth approximately AU$16 million.

Austal has also been awarded a contract from Supercat Fast Ferry (SFFC) of the Philippines for two 30-metre passenger catamaran ferries.

SFFC is a subsidiary of Philippines transportation and logistics company 2Go Group. The two catamarans will transport up to 300 passengers each at up to 25 knots. They will join SFFC’s “Supercat” fast ferry fleet operating between ten ports in the Philippines Archipelago.

The contract is reported to be worth AU$13 million. Construction of all three of the ferries will take place at Austal Philippines in Balamban, Cebu.

Delivery is scheduled for June 2017 for both contracts.
