Metal-cutting ceremony held for Shepler’s second Moran-built ferry

A metal-cutting ceremony was recently held at Moran Iron Works’ facilities for a new vessel that the company is building for Northeast Michigan operator Shepler’s Mackinac Island Ferry.

The US$4 million vessel is scheduled to enter service in the summer of 2020. It is Moran’s second newbuilding project for Shepler’s after the 281-passenger Miss Margy which was delivered in 2015.

The yet unnamed ferry will have accommodations for 210 passengers, a length of 84 feet (25 metres), a beam of 20 feet three inches (six metres), and a speed of 26 knots. It will also include enhanced air conditioning and heating capabilities to keep passengers comfortable in all weather conditions.
