Brodosplit cuts steel on polar cruise ship

The processing of steel for Hull 484 started on a sheet-cutting machine at Croatian yard Brodosplit’s facilities in Split on August 22. The vessel is the polar expedition passenger ship contracted for the company Polar Expeditions.

Hull 484 holds the distinction of being the first vessel to be built to “LR PC6” class, meeting the demands of Lloyds Register’s “Polar Class 6”, the highest polar class notation for ice-strengthened vessels.

The vessel is 107.6 meters long, has a breadth of 17.6 metres, and is equipped with two main engines for a total of 4,260kW, resulting in a speed of 15 knots. The passengers’ certificate is for 196 passengers accommodated in 85 cabins.

The vessel’s maiden voyage will kick off at the commencement of the Arctic season in March 2019.
