Norwegian cruise ship operator Hurtrigruten has unveiled plans to reduce its vessels’ carbon emissions by using organic waste from rotten fish.

The company intends to utilise liquefied bio gas (LBG) derived from dead fish along with LNG and electric batteries to help power the newer engines that will be fitted on six of the older vessels in its fleet.

Hurtigruten will invest the equivalent of US$826 million in a three-year programme to enable the selected vessels to accommodate the newer engines.
