Keel-laying ceremony held for new hydrogen fuel cell ferry for San Francisco Bay Area

Golden Gate Zero Emission Marine (GGZEM) recently held a keel-laying ceremony for its new hydrogen fuel cell ferry.

The 21-metre aluminium catamaran, which has been named Water-Go-Round, is being built by Bay Ship and Yacht of Alameda.

Water-Go-Round will have a passenger capacity of 84 and a hydrogen tank capacity that will enable up to two full days’ operation.

Construction is expected to be complete by September 2019. Once launched, the vessel will undergo three months of sea trials in San Francisco Bay to assess performance and determine marine suitability of the technology.

San Francisco-based Red and White Fleet intends to use the vessel to achieve its goal of having a 100 per cent zero emission fleet by 2025.
