Construction starts on world’s largest battery hybrid ship

Ulstein Verft has conducted a keel-laying ceremony for the world’s largest battery-hybrid ship, Color Hybrid, at Crist in Gydnia, Poland.

Marking the assembly of the ship’s 14 large blocks, the hull will be towed when complete to Ulsteinvik in Norway in October for final outfitting.

Built for the Norwegian Ordinary Ship register (NOR), the 160-metre vessel will have a capacity of 2,000 passengers and about 500 cars. It will be deployed between Sandefjord and Strømstad from July 2019.

Color Hybrid is scheduled for delivery to Color Line in May 2019.

Color Line has installed shore power at its Norwegian ports, including Oslo, Kristiansand, Larvik and Sandefjord. The facilities at Sandefjord will be used to charge the batteries of Color Hybrid.
