Transport Scotland approves Ardrossan ferry port upgrade

Major works at Ardrossan Harbour have been given the green light by Scotland’s Minister for Transport and the Islands Humza Yousaf.

The port of Androssan in the Firth of Clyde is the mainland landfall for the ferry service to and from the island of Arran, and the summer service to Campbeltown.

Plans include realigning the current berth, installing a new linkspan and constructing a new terminal building.

The decision comes almost one year after a decision to retain the historic Ardrossan to Brodick ferry route.

The Ardrossan Harbour Taskforce identified its preferred design option for the harbour upgrade to support the lifeline ferry services and the new £48.5 million (US$68.7 million) hybrid vessel.

Future improvements could include the location of the berth of vessels, new or redeveloped passenger facilities, and commercial or industrial development in the wider harbour area.
