An offshore wind farm that will be developed off South Korea’s southwestern coast will be the largest facility of its kind in the world once it is completed and online in 2030, the country’s President has confirmed.

Mr Moon Jae-in said in a speech that the 8.2GW facility will be around seven times larger than the largest offshore wind farm in operation today, the 1.12GW Hornsea 1 development in Britain.

Mr Moon added that, once operational, the wind farm offshore Sinan will be able to supply electricity to every household in Seoul and Incheon.

The wind farm will be built under a ₩48.5 trillion (US$43.2 billion) contract. A logistics hub will be set up in Mokpo while Yeongam and Sinan will house massive complexes that will manufacture equipment needed for the new facility.
