Van Oord-led consortium secures funding for new Dutch wind farm

Zuiderzeewind, a consortium of Van Oord and Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy (SGRE), has secured financing the new Windpark Fryslân wind farm being developed in the Dutch IJsselmeer, south of the Afsluitdijk, six kilometres off the Frisian coast.

Ten banks and the province of Fryslân will provide the funding for the 382.7MW wind farm, which is expected to supply electricity for around 500,000 households.

Once completed, the wind farm will comprise 89 Siemens Gamesa 4.3MW turbines which are placed in a cluster form. It will be the largest wind farm in the world to be built in inland water and is expected to become fully operational in 2021.
