US firm approves NOK 2.3 billion loan for new wind farm for O&G platforms

US-based Enova International has approved an application for funding of up to NOK 2.3 billion (US$260 million) to support the Hywind Tampen project for developing the world’s first floating offshore wind farm supplying renewable power to offshore oil and gas installations.

Once completed, the wind farm will supply 35 per cent of the electricity demand of the Gullfaks A, B, and C and Snorre A and B platforms in the Norwegian sector of the North Sea.

The Hywind Tampen wind farm will consist of 11 wind turbines with a total capacity of 88 MW. It will be developed by Equinor in partnership with Petoro, OMV Norge, ExxonMobil Exploration and Production Norway, Idemitsu Petroleum Norge, DEA Norge, and Vår Energi.
