North Tyneside shipyard to be rebuilt as offshore support hub

UK-based Shepherd Offshore has acquired the former Swan Hunter shipyard located in Wallsend, North Tyneside, with the aim of developing the site as an offshore energy and subsea services hub.

Offering a capacity of nearly 13 hectares, the site for the future Swans Energy Park includes access roads, two quays, two river berths, a wet berth facility, and vacant former buildings.

Shepherd claims the location provides excellent access from the Tyne to key oil and gas fields and wind farm development sites such as Dogger Bank, Hornsea, and Firth of Forth. Operations have already commenced at the quay facility and nearby supporting infrastructure.
