The New York State government has approved the construction of two offshore wind farms under the single largest renewable energy procurement by any US state in history.

The two winning tenders are the Empire Wind development project submitted by Equinor US Holdings and the Sunrise Wind development project submitted by Bay State Wind, a joint venture of Ørsted and Eversource Energy.

The two planned projects, which have an aggregate output of 1,700 MW, are expected to provide power for up to one million New York households.
