The Petroleum Corporation of Jamaica (PCJ) has secured funding to complete a feasibility study for an offshore wind project off the Jamaican coast.

The US Trade and Development Agency grant will be used by the government-owned PCJ to determine the viability of installing the first offshore wind project in the Caribbean.

US firm Keystone Engineering will conduct the study. Jamaica reportedly relies on petroleum imports to generate 90 per cent of its electricity.
