Niestern Sander to convert PSV into standby rescue vessel

Dutch shipyard Royal Niestern Sander has been awarded a contract by Bahamas-based Dixstone Holdings for the conversion of the platform supply vessel (PSV) SK Line 728 into a walk-to-work, emergency response and rescue vessel.

Part of the conversion scope includes adding an extra bow thruster, a daughter craft, and a motion-compensated gangway. In addition, a large accommodation block with offices, treatment room, storage space, and cabins will be constructed on the deck of the vessel.

Following its conversion, SK Line 728 will commence a long-term charter with an unnamed oil and gas operator wherein it will provide maintenance services for platforms in the southern North Sea on the UK continental shelf.

The conversion is expected to take around nine months.
