Hornbeck Offshore Services has acquired three high-specification offshore supply vessels (OSVs) from the US Department of Transportation’s Maritime Administration (MARAD) for an undisclosed amount of cash.

All three of the vessels that were acquired at auction are US-flagged, Jones Act-qualified, DP2 OSVs with diesel-electric propulsion. Upon taking physical delivery of the vessels from MARAD, Hornbeck expects to conduct reactivation and regulatory drydockings of all three vessels.

Company president and CEO Todd Hornbeck said the OSVs were built by the Eastern Shipbuilding Group in 2013 and 2014. They will be deployed primarily to serve the growing US domestic offshore wind industry, though they may also be converted to support military or other non-oilfield, non-wind specialty applications.
