Singapore-based Cyan Renewables has selected Norwegian shipbuilder Vard for the design and construction of a new hybrid-powered service operation vessel (SOV).

Following completion, the 85.5-metre vessel will enter into a long-term contract with Siemens Gamesa at the Hai Long Two offshore wind farm in Taiwan.

The vessel is being developed by Vard Design to have a hybrid diesel-electric propulsion arrangement of batteries, permanent magnet motors, and retractable azimuthing thrusters. The propulsion will deliver a transit speed of 13 knots.

The SOV will also have accommodations for 84 people and a Seaonics all-electric, motion compensated gangway.
