First Jones Act-compliant windfarm service vessel gets AIP from ABS

The American Bureau of Shipping (ABS) has granted Vard approval in principle (AIP) for its design of a new service vessel that will provide accommodation and crew transfer support for offshore wind farms.

According to Vard, the vessel is designed to be environmentally friendly with a focus on low fuel consumption and ease of construction. The hull form will help ensure adequate station keeping in nearly all weather conditions.

The vessel, which is a modified variant of an existing Vard offshore support vessel, will be the first of its kind to be designed and built in compliance with the US Jones Act.
