Chinese operator Goldsea Marine and Offshore Engineering Shanghai has taken delivery of a new catamaran crewboat from local builder AFAI Southern Shipyard.

Yu Feng Zhe 001 was designed specifically for offshore conditions in China. The aluminium crewboat has an LOA of 32.1 metres, a beam of 10 metres, a design draught of 1.82 metres, capacity for 12 technicians and 10 tonnes of cargo, and equipment for ensuring safe crew transfers to and from offshore wind turbines even in wave heights in excess of two metres. The vessel is designed to work and stay offshore for extended periods and has a large deadweight capacity to allow this functionality.

The main deck features four cabins for the six-strong crew, two toilets, and a large technician seating area with refreshment space. Also provided are internal storage for equipment and a large foredeck cargo zone. Below deck is a workshop, a utility room, and additional storage and laundry facilities while the vessel is also prepared for a deck crane capable of lifting two tonnes at a reach of 10 metres.

The propulsion arrangement includes two MAN D2862 LE466 engines that each produce 1,029 kW at 2,100 rpm. The engines are fed by a 39,000-litre fuel tank and drive two controllable-pitch propellers to deliver a maximum speed of 25 knots and a service speed of 10 knots.

Design work on Yu Feng Zhe 001 was done in compliance to China Classification Society’s Catamaran HSC, Cargo, and Greater Coastal Service notations.
