Singapore-based naval architects SeaTech Solutions International (SSI) has unveiled the first design images of a new type of electric-powered lighter craft.

The catamaran vessel will be able to carry up to 12 passengers and 35 tonnes of cargo. It will be supported by a proposed charging infrastructure and equipped with battery packs that can be swapped for charging while the vessel carries out its operations uninterrupted.

SSI expects the prototype craft will begin operating in Singapore’s waters within the next three years.
