Offshore support vessel company Sentinel Marine is set to add three new multi-role ships to its fleet.

The Aberdeen-based company is investing in the region of £36 million (US$45.84 million) in the trio of newbuilds, which will come into service by the end of 2020.

The ships, which will be named Cromarty Sentinel, Trafalgar Sentinel, and Viking Sentinel, will be enhanced versions of the emergency response and rescue vessels (ERRVs) which the company has introduced in the North Sea over the past four years.

ERRVs are primarily used for the safety of offshore personnel but may also perform secondary roles such as oil recovery, rescue towing, and dynamic positioning.

All three new vessels are being built in China and will have DP2 notation, FiFi1 notation, and oil recovery and liquid mud and dry bulk capabilities.
