Piriou to develop hydrogen-powered crewboat

NAVAL ARCHITECTURE WEEK

French shipbuilder Piriou has emerged as the winner of a local competitive tender process calling for the design of a new crewboat that will be powered by hydrogen hybrid propulsion.

The vessel will have an LOA of 27 metres, a beam of 9.7 metres, and space for three crew and 24 passengers as well as up to five tonnes of cargo. Two 1,000kW engines will draw power from a pair of 140kW hydrogen fuel cells to deliver a maximum speed of 25 knots.

The crewboat will be classed by Bureau Veritas.
