NYK, Akita Eisen ink MOU for windfarm crewboat business

Japan’s Nippon Yusen Kabushiki Kaisha (NUK) and local towing company Akita Eisen have entered into a memorandum of understanding (MoU) for a new crew transfer business.

The business will operate a fleet of crewboats in support of future offshore wind installation and maintenance activities in the waters off Akita prefecture on the main island of Honshu.

This will be NYK’s second windfarm crewboat collaboration after its earlier and ongoing collaboration with Sweden’s Northern Offshore Group, which also seeks to operate in support of the Japanese offshore wind market.
