Sri Lankan shipbuilder Colombo Dockyard has laid the keel of a new 100-metre cable laying and repair vessel ordered by France’s Orange Marine.

The BV-classed vessel will be named Sophie Germain in honour of a famed 19th century French mathematician, physicist, and philosopher.

Design work on the vessel was provided by Vard Design of Norway. Delivery is scheduled for early 2023.
