Shimizu orders wind turbine installation SEP

Shimizu Corporation has placed an order worth ¥50 billion (US$462 million) for a self-elevating platform (SEP) to be used for installing offshore wind turbines.

The 142- by 50-metre platform will have a displacement of 25,000 tonnes, a crane with a lifting capacity of 2,200 tonnes, and the ability to operate in water depths of up to 65 metres.

Construction is expected to begin at Japan Marine United’s (JMU) facilities in August 2019 while completion is scheduled for October 2022.
