SB Submarine Systems completes Malaysia cable-laying project

China’s SB Submarine Systems (SBSS) has completed the Stingray fibre optic cable installation project for Ifactors of Malaysia.

The installation and subsequent burial of 72.4 kilometres of fibre optic cable was completed by SBSS’ cable-laying vessel Bold Maverick utilising both the Hi-plough and the Sea Lion ROV.

The first cable was installed between Rompin to Pulau Tioman with the entire length buried for enhanced cable projection, with a length of 5.5 kilometres buried to a depth of three metres. The second 61.9-kilometre cable was installed between Besut and Perhentian Kecil with 13.4 kilometres buried to a depth of three metres.

Both segments required significant protection to compensate for the seabed environment.
