Piriou unveils new cable-lay vessel design

French shipbuilder Piriou has unveiled a new design of cable-laying and cable repair vessel.

The 100- by 18-metre vessel will feature an optimised hull that will help reduce fuel consumption by as much as 10 tonnes per day while sailing at a speed of 12.5 knots.

Onboard facilities will include two storage tanks that could accommodate up to 1,000 tonnes of energy or fibre-optic cables and a hangar for remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to protect them from the elements.
