Construction begins on second US offshore wind farm

Construction of the second offshore wind farm in the United States has begun with the installation of underwater cables at Dominion Energy’s Coastal Virginia Offshore Wind (CVOW) project.

The cables will comprise an 800-metre-long conduit that will connect an onshore substation and two six-megawatt wind turbines. With cooperation from Ørsted, Dominion will later put up the turbines in the Atlantic Ocean some 43 kilometres east of Virginia Beach, Virginia.

The CVOW wind farm is expected to generate its first power next year with an eventual goal of providing electricity for up to 3,000 homes.
