HMC announces 250 job cuts as part of restructure

HMC successfully removed the Murchison platform in July.

About 250 jobs will be cut at Heerema Marine Contractors (HMC) as conditions in the offshore oil and gas market forces the Dutch company into a restructure.

An HMC statement said about 200 office personnel and another 50 fleet personnel would lose their jobs.

The company, which is also active in the offshore wind energy industry, said the restructuring was related to the continuing low oil price, low level of investment in the oil and gas industry, and an increasingly competitive market.

“With market conditions and the outlook deteriorating since the start of this year, the restructuring will focus on adapting the company to decreased work volumes and on enhancing the cost efficiency and competitiveness of the company,” said HMC.

Management has informed staff of the plans.

“HMC will do everything possible to support those affected and has also entered into discussions with the trade unions about a severance package,” said the company.
