SCF names icebreaking standby vessel Fedor Ushakov

PAO Sovcomflot (SCF Group) has conducted a naming ceremony for Fedor Ushakov, its new multifunctional icebreaking standby vessel (IBSBV) that was commissioned to assist with the Sakhalin-2 project. 

Designed to operate in the Sea of Okhotsk, Fedor Ushakov is the third in a series of four IBSBVs commissioned by SCF Group, under a long-term agreement with Sakhalin Energy, which is developing the offshore natural gas field.

Featuring a 28-strong, all-Russian crew, Fedor Ushakov will be used at three offshore production platforms, and provide a rapid response to emergencies.

The 99-metre vessel is named after Admiral Fedor Ushakov (1745–1817), a Russian naval commander who did not suffer a single defeat throughout his entire career and was instrumental in the founding of the Port of Sevastopol and the development of Russia’s Black Sea fleet. In 2004, Ushakov was canonised by the Russian Orthodox Church.

Construction of the four vessels was contracted to United Shipbuilding Corporation and its subsidiary, Arctech Helsinki Shipyard.
