Aeolus Energy flags creation of offshore wind fleet

Florida-based wind-turbine maintenance specialist Aeolus Energy Group (AEG) has unveiled a plan to develop a fleet for offshore wind projects.

Outlining plans for port facilities in Massachusetts and Maryland, AEG Chief Executive Elia Golfin said a Jones Act-compliant construction fleet would include jack-up vessels capable of installing 10MW and 12MW turbines, cable ships to install medium- and high-voltage marine cables, service operations vessels to provide large-scale accommodation at sea, and a fleet of crew transfer assets, including vessels and helicopters.

“The untapped potential of offshore wind energy in US coastal waters is well documented,” said Golfin.

“The initial projects are well into their development. What is lacking is a US construction fleet, trained American workers and port facilities to do the work. That is what we intend to create.”
