Norwegian owner orders wind farm service vessel

Norwegian shipowner, Østensjø Rederi has ordered a service operation vessel (SOV) from Gondan Shipyard, after landing a five year contract with Dong Energy.

The vessel will perform maintenance operations on the Race Bank Offshore wind farm in the United Kingdom, for the charterer Dong Energy.

The ship will be designed by Rolls Royce Marine, under the name 'UT 540 WP' and will have a length of 81 metres and a beam of 17 metres. She will serve as a mothership that provides services for more than 30 specialised technicians to perform maintenance on the wind towers.

The vessel features a motion compensated gangway system with an adjustable pedestal that will enable the transfer of maintenance personnel from the ship to the workspace on a stable and safe surface.

The shipbuilder is currently building three vessels for  Østensjø Rederi. The newbuild will be the 12th vessel the Norwegian shipowner has built at  Gondan's Astilleros shipyard in Spain.

Delivery is scheduled for the second half of 2017.
