USA: MetalCraft Marine has completed delivery 'John S Damrell', a state-of-the-art high-speed fireboat for Boston Fire Department.

The new fireboat, which will be equipped with chemical, biological, radiological and nuclear (CBRN) emergency response capability, will replace the current fireboat 'Firefighter', which has been in service since 1972 and does not have the capabilities need for a modern emergency response fireboat. The City of Boston authorities received two grants from the Department of Homeland Security for US$2 million towards the construction of this vessel with the remaining US$2.2 million funded by the city through the Fire Department's capital plan.

Fitted with four Iveco C13 engines driving Hamilton 364 water-jets, 'John S Damrell' can hit speeds of 36 knots. Its pumps can produce over 45,000 litres/minute at 150psi. Detection equipment has been installed to detect interior and exterior CBRN agents, with a breathable air system fitted on the bridge.
