Seastema, a Fincantieri company, has begun work on the development of a new unmanned vessel that will be used as a launching/recovery and coordinating platform for both aerial and underwater drones.

The demonstrator vessel will be an existing 20-metre-long naval platform equipped to allow remote operation from a shore station and with the aid of an advanced decision support system. Missions will include environmental monitoring and littoral security operations.

The €6 million (US$6.97 million) project will be executed over a span of three years.
