Huntington Ingalls Industries closes acquisition of Kongsberg subsidiary Hydroid

Huntington Ingalls Industries (HII) has closed on its previously announced acquisition of Kongsberg’s US-based subsidiary Hydroid, a company specialising in the supply of advanced marine robotics to the defence and maritime markets.

Hydroid will become part of HII’s Technical Solutions Unmanned Systems business unit that includes unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs). With the addition of Hydroid, HII now has capabilities to supply medium and small UUVs as well.

In conjunction with the transaction, HII and Kongsberg Maritime have established a strategic alliance to jointly market naval and maritime products and services to the US government and potentially to global customers.
