BAE Systems acquires UUV firm Riptide

BAE Systems has purchased the key assets of Riptide Autonomous Solutions, a Massachusetts-based manufacturer of unmanned underwater vehicles (UUVs).

Among other things, the acquisition will see Riptide’s UUVs fitted with BAE Systems’ electronic and communication suites with the aim of serving customers in the defence, commercial, and research markets, BAE said in a statement.

The Riptide facilities in Plymouth, Massachusetts, will be maintained as Riptide’s employees are absorbed into BAE Systems’ Electronic Systems sector following the acquisition.
