Police Scotland to operate locally-built boat

UK company ExoTechnologies, through its Glasgow-based vessel building arm Ultimate Boats, has delivered a new boat to Police Scotland.

The vessel is notable for being the first in a series of boats constructed using a new fully recyclable composite material designed as a replacement for FRP and carbon fibre.

The new police boat has a top speed of 50 knots and an operating range of 400 nautical miles. It will be demonstrated at the Seawork exhibition in Southampton later this month.

Police Scotland will operate the boat on loan from ExoTechnologies over a period of three years.

The Vietnam Border Guard recently received 12 high-speed guard boats in a series.

The vessels were supplied under a joint project between the Vietnamese and Indian governments. Five of the boats were built by Larsen and Toubro in India while the remainder were constructed by Hong Ha Shipyard in Vietnam.

Rajnath Singh, Indian Minister of Defence, said he is “confident” that the guard boat project will lead to similar cooperative defence projects between the two countries.

Fifth SSC landing craft handed over to US Navy

The US Navy took delivery of a new Ship to Shore Connector (SSC) landing craft air cushion (LCAC) from Textron Systems Corporation on Thursday, June 9.

The delivery of LCAC 104 follows the completion of acceptance trials with the navy’s Board of Inspection and Survey to test the readiness and capability of the craft and to validate requirements.

As with the navy’s earlier SSCs, LCAC 104 was built with similar configurations, dimensions, and clearances to the legacy LCACs, ensuring the compatibility with existing well deck-equipped amphibious ships.
