Multiple US Coast Guard law enforcement teams detected and interdicted four Mexican lancha boat crews engaged in illegal fishing in US federal waters off the coast of southern Texas on Thursday, April 9.

Coast Guard crews consisting of air support, a small boat crew, and two cutters stopped the lanchas approximately 32 kilometres north of the Maritime Boundary Line. A total of 15 lanchamen were found to have engaged in illegal fishing.

More than six kilometres of longline gear, illegal fishing equipment, and 360 kilograms of illegally-caught red snapper were seized by the coast guard from the suspect boats.
