Mitsubishi Shipbuilding has completed the sea trials of the second and final Teresa Magbanua-class multi-role response vessel (MRRV) ordered by the Philippine Coast Guard.

The vessel honours Melchora Aquino, a famed leader of the Philippine Revolution against Spain in the late 1890s.

The MRRV will depart Japan and sail for Manila before the end of April 2022 following the completion of crew training at Mitsubishi’s Shimonoseki Shipyard.

At 97 metres in length, the future BRP Melchora Aquino and sister vessel BRP Teresa Magbanua are the largest vessels yet acquired by the Philippine Coast Guard. Duties will include maritime security patrols, search and rescue, counter-narcotics missions, and environmental protection.
