The Philippine Coast Guard commissioned its newest 97-metre multi-role response vessel (MRRV) in a ceremony in Manila on Friday, May 6.

BRP Teresa Magbanua is the first in a series of two vessels that are the largest vessels to be acquired by the Philippine Coast Guard to date. It can reach a maximum speed of 24 knots and can sail for up to 4,000 nautical miles, allowing it to conduct sustained maritime patrols within the Philippines’ exclusive economic zone.

Sister vessel BRP Melchora Aquino is nearing completion at Mitsubishi Shipbuilding’s Shimonoseki shipyard and is scheduled to sail for Manila before the end of the month.
