Philippine Coast Guard commissions final two of four 24m FPBs

The Philippine Coast Guard (PCG) commissioned into service on Wednesday, January 16, the final two of four Boracay-class Fast Patrol Boats (FPBs) ordered from France’s OCEA.

BRP Malamawi (pictured) and BRP Kalanggaman will join their sisters BRP Boracay and BRP Panglao in the PCG fleet. Except for Boracay, the FPBs will be crewed by personnel from both the PCG and the Philippine Bureau of Customs (BOC) on anti-smuggling duties.

Each FPB has a length of 24 metres, a width of 5.8 metres, a draught of 1.7 metres, a crew of 12, and a range of 2,000 nautical miles at a cruising speed of 12 knots. Armament consists of one M2 Browning 12.7-millimetre machine gun.
