Austal Australia delivered a new Guardian-class patrol boat to the Australian Department of Defence (DOD) in a ceremony on Friday, March 11.

The boat, which was christened FSS Tosiwo Nakayama, was then formally handed over by the DOD to the government of the Federated States of Micronesia for operation by its National Police force.

The vessel is the first of two Guardian-class patrol boats to be delivered to the Federated States of Micronesia under the Pacific Patrol Boat Replacement Project under the Australian Government’s Pacific Maritime Security Program.

The steel monohull patrol Tosiwo Nakayama has a length of 39.5 metres and a stern launch and recovery system for one rigid inflatable boat (RIB). Missions will include border patrols, regional policing, and search and rescue.
